This months blog is all about faux floral hair accessories! If you are looking for some floral interest to add to your bridal hair then of course there is the option of having fresh flowers adorning your locks. However, fresh flowers do not cope too well out of a water source, and before the end of the day the flowers will tend to wilt, particularly if it is a lovely hot summers day! If you use faux flowers you will obviously not have to worry about this problem. So what can you put in your hair? There are so many options to choose from: floral combs, crowns, Alice bands, floral vines, and floral pins. Floral crowns- T end to work really well if you having your hair down, as they are generally placed directly on top of the head. They can be made as a full circlet, half circlet, and can be made adjustable by way of a ribbon tie at the back. I have a selection of both lace and satin ribbon that I tend to use for my crowns. They are generally quite lightweight to wear. Floral combs- These are lovely when used to accentuate a bun or 'up-do'. They are placed just above the bun or sometimes at the side of an intricate up-do, they are very secure, as the combs have pretty long tines, to help keep the comb in place. they can vary in length and style depending on the hair style. Alice bands- These are particularly good for smaller members of the bridal party, or if you prefer to actually feel the head piece. Flowers are either wired to a metal band or glued on to a satin band. If they fit well, they are generally quite comfortable to wear. Floral vines - A floral vine is simply vine string with a number of florals attached at intervals along the length of the vine. It is then simply 'woven' through the hair, creating a scattered flower look. Vines are ideal for those seeking a more natural boho look, and work really well with either loose plaited hairstyles or tousled full length hair. Floral pins - These are shown in the photo above, using a selection of my floral pins. Ideal for the type of hairstyle shown, where the individual pins can be placed exactly where they are needed. The pins can be placed in clusters to give a fuller look, or placed individually for a more scattered effect. They are perfect if you require just a little floral interest. They would be a lovely addition for those Bridesmaids hair-dos too! However, if there is something you would like made bespoke for you, please feel free to contact me to discuss options.

When I am sourcing faux florals, I am looking for certain key features that would be 'giveaways' that the flowers are not real. So, what is that I am looking for, and what should you be looking for when purchasing your faux florals? Aesthetics- look at the petals, are they the right colour and do they have different tone variation and markings to the fresh version? The branches, again are they the right colour, or are they some sort of unnatural looking luminous green?! Look for other defining features that you would find on the real thing, and ensure that these are present on the faux version. For example, the magnolia in the photo has the furry catkin like new buds that you would definitely see on the real thing! Texture- How does the faux version feel? Some faux flowers and foliage are 'real touch' meaning they feel like the real thing, this type are more expensive, but in most instances are definitely worth spending the extra on. Movement- This is important, particularly when looking at the foliage .Faux foliage can be an absolute giveaway that your bouquet or other floral items are not real. Therefore, as well as the features above, you need to look at movement. Does the faux flower/foliage move naturally? Or is it very stiff, plasticky and lifeless? You should be able to hold the stem at the base and there should be movement at the top, it should 'sway'. Petals and leaves should also have some movement. Finally, in most cases it is true that the more you spend, the better the quality of the faux floral, but if you keep in mind the points above you will know what to look for in any case.

Hi, welcome to my new website. I hope you find it informative and easy to navigate. My aim was to keep it simple and transparent. I intend to keep up a regular monthly blog with hints and tips. I also have some exciting things planned - so watch this space. A thank you also to Melanie at One Life Studio for a wonderful boho photoshoot collaboration, Southwood Woodland (just before lockdown!) and providing me with the opportunity to showcase a number of my faux floral designs and displays.
